Domestic enterprises successfully produce nanotechnology flame retardant fabric

This flame retardant fabric is a combination of Vinatex's dyeing and finishing technology and Kova's nanotechnology, becoming a research on high-tech engineering owned by Vietnamese enterprises.

This product line is born to replace imported fireproof fabric with a cheaper price of about 20%, which Vietnam spends about 120 million USD each year to import.

At the conference to introduce this technology on May 12, taking place in Ho Chi Minh City, Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoe, Chairman of Kova Paints Group shared, manufactured from meta-aramid fiber and antistatic agent in textile materials that have been coated with nano (silicate from rice husk) to create flame retardant fabric, this is green nano products when burned have volatile organic compounds VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds-) close to 0.

"This feature helps protect users not only from the damage caused by the fire but also from being suffocated by toxic fumes, contributing to protecting the environment and human health," said Ms. Hoe.

Through many times of testing and improving, Vinatex - Kova fireproof fabric has achieved the US fire retardant standards: TB 117-2013 section 1 performed by TUV testing organization (Germany) and ASTM D6 413/ D6413M - 15 , by the Experiment Center - Textile Institute Joint Stock Company.

Flame retardant nano fabric can be used to sew protective clothing for workers in the industries: petroleum, petroleum, electricity, mining, aviation, chemicals, ... and also used for products in daily life. such as: curtains, sofa cover, ironing board, cooking apron, wardrobe, car tarpaulin, kiosk cover...

According to Mr. Pham Xuan Trinh, CEO of Vinatex, every year the world spends 3.5-5 billion USD on fireproof fabric, Vietnam alone spends 120 million USD each year to buy this fabric.

The reason why Vietnam imports a lot of fireproof fabrics is because the country has not yet produced high-quality products, so many businesses buy and produce workwear.

In addition, according to Mr. Trinh, at present, the market potential for fireproof fabrics is still very large because the fact that the use of fireproof workwear is not really strict. Meanwhile, in the event of a fire or explosion, it will cause great loss of life and property. There are even businesses that have gone bankrupt after the fire because of too heavy property damage.

"The domestically produced Vinatex - Kova fabric is expected to be about $14-15/m2, 15-20% cheaper than imported fire-retardant fabric," Trinh said.
